The acting cfhairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Benue state chapter, Rev. Jonathan Terwase Ugbede, Monday called on Christians in the state to intensify prayers and support for Governor Hyacinth Alia to enable his administration achieve more for the people.
Rev. Ugbede also commended the governor for his sustained support for the church and commitment to the development of the state.
He made the call during his 60th birthday celebration at the CAN secretariat, Makurdi.
Her said Governor Alia has continued to support Christian organisations in ways that have enabled them to contribute meaningfully to society, while also demonstrating commitment to governance and development.
He noted that the administration has given priority to infrastructure development, with ongoing road construction and rehabilitation, revitalisation of moribund industries and redevelopment of public facilities to stimulate economic growth and create jobs.
He added that the government has equally pursued reforms to improve public service delivery, strengthen institutions and restore accountability in governance.
To illustrate the governor’s support for the Church, the CAN chairman cited the recent interdenominational service to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary at Faith Hill Prophetic Assembly, Demekpe, Makurdi, where Governor Alia reportedly donated N20 million to a church project after learning of an appeal that was made in his absence.
Ugbede expressed gratitude to God for His faithfulness over the years, particularly for the improvement in his wife’s health after a period of health challenges.
