THE SI DIPLOMAT
Donald Trump likes Super Intelligence.
So much so that on September 29, President Trump directed his administration to replace the term Artificial Intelligence — AI — with Super Intelligence — SI in official communications.
His argument was simple: technology had advanced beyond the old description. The terminology should recognize the higher level of capability.
Perhaps the same test should now be applied to diplomacy.
Look at U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
I would call him Trump’s Super Intelligence Diplomat.
Not because Washington needs another fancy diplomatic title. It already has plenty.
Because of what Rubio is actually doing.
RUBIO’S GLOBAL CHESSBOARD
Rubio’s strength is his ability to see several chessboards at once.
China. Russia. Ukraine. Iran. The Middle East. NATO. Latin America. The Indo-Pacific. India. Central Asia.
These are no longer separate files.
Energy connects Russia to India. The Middle East affects India’s energy security. Central Asia sits between Russia and China. Critical minerals connect manufacturing to national security. Semiconductors connect technology to geopolitics. Trade policy can become foreign policy overnight.
Rubio’s assignment is to connect those dots.
That requires more than knowing foreign policy. It requires understanding how a move on one chessboard changes the pieces on another.
GEOPOLITICS WITH A BALANCE SHEET
Now Secretary of State Marco Rubio turns again to India and Central Asia.
His October mission includes India and Uzbekistan. In India, strategic relations, energy cooperation, commercial investment and meetings with government and business leaders are on the agenda. His Central Asian engagement brings another strategically important region into the same diplomatic frame.
That is not ceremonial diplomacy.
It is geopolitics with a balance sheet attached.
And India occupies a special place in Rubio’s calculations.
During his first official India visit, Rubio described India as a “cornerstone” of America’s Indo-Pacific approach.
Now he is coming back.
THE SECOND DATE
Twice in one year?
In diplomatic terms, this is beginning to look like a romance.
Fortunately, there is already a diplomatic bridge-builder: Sergio Gor, the Super Intelligence U.S. Ambassador to India.
THE DIPLOMATIC BRIDGE-BUILDER
Gor brings something particularly valuable in Trump’s Washington: presidential trust, direct access and the ability to turn access into action.
In traditional diplomacy, a message can travel through layers of bureaucracy before reaching the Oval Office.
Gor knows the man sitting inside it.
But access without execution is merely a good address book.
What makes Gor particularly interesting is his position at the intersection of Washington, India and Central Asia. With his additional role as Trump’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, he operates across trade, investment, energy, technology and strategic cooperation.
Call it SI diplomacy.
RUBIO’S DEAL TABLE IS SET
Rubio arrives with economic momentum already building.
India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar says the U.S.–India trade negotiations are “pretty far advanced” and heading toward a “landing point.”
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal says the first tranche of the agreement has been finalized and is in final legal drafting.
And Ambassador Sergio Gor says the “big items are done” and negotiations are moving at an “incredible pace.”
Three powerful voices.
One unmistakable direction.
So Rubio isn’t arriving at an empty table.
The deal table is already set.
Now comes the bigger question:
What can America and India put on it?
STAY TUNED, INDIA
Perhaps that is the real question surrounding Rubio’s second visit.
Not simply what agreement might be announced.
Not simply what communiqué might be issued.
But:
What could America and India become together?
Forget diplomacy for a moment.
Follow the money.
RUBIO’S ECONOMIC PLAY
Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s Super Intelligence mission to India becomes much bigger than diplomacy.
Because behind the handshakes, strategic dialogue and trade negotiations sits an extraordinary economic proposition.
America is a roughly $32 trillion economy.
India is already a $4 trillion-plus economy, while the IMF’s latest outlook puts Indian growth around 7%, keeping it among the fastest-growing major economies in the world.
India is approaching 1.5 billion people.
Those numbers alone make the relationship consequential.
But GDP tells only part of the story.
THE AMERICAN FINANCIAL FIREPOWER RUBIO BRINGS TO THE TABLE
America’s real financial muscle extends far beyond the size of its economy.
U.S. markets accounted for approximately 43.7% of global equity-market capitalization in 2025 and around 38.1% of global fixed-income securities outstanding, according to SIFMA’s 2026 Capital Markets Fact Book.
And despite decades of predictions about the dollar’s decline, the greenback still represented approximately 56.7% of allocated global foreign-exchange reserves in the second quarter of 2026.
Those are not merely statistics.
They describe the financial firepower Rubio brings to the negotiating table.
RUBIO’S EQUATION: WHEN CAPITAL MEETS SCALE
Now put America’s financial firepower alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s India.
Nearly 1.5 billion people.
A massive technology workforce.
Formidable youth power.
A rapidly expanding consumer market.
Digital infrastructure operating at extraordinary scale.
A growing manufacturing base.
And enormous economic headroom still ahead.
The proposition becomes remarkably simple:
America has capital. India has scale.
America has financial power. India has growth power.
America has deep markets. India has youth power.
America brings technology, capital markets and global financial reach.
India brings talent, youth power, demographics, manufacturing potential and one of the largest domestic markets on Earth.
RUBIO’S CALCULATIONS
This is where Rubio’s strategic calculations become particularly interesting.
What happens if substantially more American capital flows into Indian manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, defense, semiconductors and Super Intelligence?
What happens if Indian companies gain greater access to American capital, technology and markets?
What happens when American innovation and Indian talent stop operating merely as buyer and seller and increasingly build for the world together?
And what happens if Washington and New Delhi construct trusted supply chains spanning critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, chips, defense, energy and SI?
The possibilities are considerably bigger than another trade agreement.
WHEN RUBIO’S ARITHMETIC BECOMES GEOPOLITICS
At some point, Marco Rubio’s arithmetic becomes geopolitics.
This is where Rubio’s assignment could become historic.
Not another communiqué.
Not another photograph in front of two flags.
Build the economic bridge.
The emerging world order will not be shaped by military strength alone.
Its equation increasingly looks something like this:
CAPITAL + TECHNOLOGY + ENERGY + TALENT + MANUFACTURING + MARKETS = POWER
America possesses an extraordinary concentration of capital, technology and financial reach.
India possesses extraordinary scale, talent, demographics and growth — and increasingly technological and manufacturing capability of its own.
Bring those strengths together at sufficient scale and the U.S.–India relationship becomes something larger than another bilateral strategic partnership.
It becomes an economic force capable of helping shape the changing world order.
THE $32 TRILLION COURTSHIP MARCO RUBIO SEES
That is the strategic bridge Sergio Gor is helping build.
After all, Rubio is returning to India for his second official visit this year.
The first date was diplomacy.
The second looks increasingly like business.
RUBIO’S ROMANCE
And if America’s financial power and India’s growth power really start courting each other, Secretary of State Marco Rubio may discover that bringing two giant economies closer together is considerably more expensive than state dinners.
But this is one romance where a large bill might be very good news.
And perhaps that is what Super Intelligence diplomacy is ultimately about.
