Spurgeon missed the last four games due to an upper-body injury, and he’s now expected to return to the lineup against Calgary. This is his 17th season with Minnesota, and he had five points (one goal and four assists) in the first six games of the season.
With the C on his chest for seven seasons, Spurgeon is obviously a key part of what Minnesota wants to do. At 36 years old, he’s one of the most important veteran voices in the locker room. The Wild went 2-1-1 in the four games without him in the lineup.
The Wild have dealt with a multitude of injuries so far this season, so getting Spurgeon back in the lineup is a huge boost with four road games remaining on their current road trip. Free agent addition D-man Olli Maatta has also missed the last four games due to injury, and he’s expected to return to the lineup on Thursday. He has two points so far this season.
Minnesota’s game against Calgary is scheduled for 8 p.m. CT on Thursday. The Wild will be off on Friday before playing the Seattle Kraken at 9 p.m. CT on Saturday night.
