ADEN — The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that at least 1,282 people have been killed and 5,891 others injured in Yemen since the latest wave of military escalation began on August 6, highlighting the devastating humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict.
According to the UN health agency, the surge in hostilities has placed immense pressure on Yemen’s already fragile healthcare system, which has struggled for years with shortages of medical supplies, funding gaps, and damaged infrastructure.
WHO warned that the increasing number of casualties is overwhelming health facilities in several conflict-affected areas, while access to essential healthcare services remains limited for millions of Yemenis.
The organization also expressed concern over the growing needs of displaced families and vulnerable communities caught in the fighting.
Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly called for the protection of civilians, healthcare workers, and medical facilities, stressing the importance of ensuring safe access to emergency treatment and life-saving assistance.
The latest figures come amid intensified clashes and military operations across multiple fronts in Yemen, raising fears that the humanitarian crisis could worsen further if violence continues.
International organizations continue to urge all parties to respect international humanitarian law, facilitate humanitarian access, and work toward a sustainable political solution to end the conflict.
