The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that the Nigeria Police Force will conduct itself professionally during the 2027 general election, pledging to build on lessons from recent polls to ensure improved security and public confidence in the electoral process.
Disu gave the assurances while addressing journalists after meeting with officers of the Rivers State Police Command at the Officers’ Mess in Port Harcourt, where he directed personnel to intensify engagement with stakeholders, remain accountable and respond promptly to complaints from members of the public.
He said the police leadership had recently convened a conference of commissioners of police and other senior officers to review experiences from previous elections, identify operational shortcomings and develop strategies for better performance during the forthcoming general election.
“We have had two or three elections recently, and you can see the police came out very well. We brought all this experience together, where we did well and where we did not do well, so that we will be able to perform better in this big election that everybody is looking up to.
“I give you my word, the Nigerian police will do so well, and we will make the Nigerian Police proud and the nation proud,” the IGP added.
Disu, who expressed satisfaction with the security situation in Rivers State, commended the state Commissioner of Police and his personnel for their efforts, noting that feedback from community members and stakeholders indicated improvements in security across the state.
He said his meeting with officers was aimed at reviewing their operations, addressing complaints and reinforcing the need for professionalism ahead of the 2027 elections.
