U2 to headline first-ever NFL Thanksgiving Eve game halftime show

Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Irish rock band U2 will headline the first-ever NFL Thanksgiving Eve football game.

The NFL announced the news Tuesday ahead of the matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams Nov. 25 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

The performance will celebrate U2's 50th anniversary as a group. The rock band, fronted by Bono, is known for such singles as "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."

"There's a reason U2 has headline stadiums for decades: they don't just perform, they deliver iconic moments audiences remember forever," Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said in a statement. "We're thrilled that they'll bring that same magic to the NFL stage on Netflix. It's going to be an unforgettable night for football fans and Netflix members worldwide."

U2 previously headlined the halftime show at Super Bowl XXXVI between the New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams in New Orleans in 2002.

The NFL Thanksgiving Eve game will start coverage at 6 p.m. ET on Netflix, with kick off scheduled for 8 p.m.
