Michael Carrick is under enormous pressure as Manchester United manager after Wednesday’s 4-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League extended the Red Devils’ winless run to seven matches.
According to talkSPORT, Manchester United appear to be preparing for life without Carrick and have identified Julian Nagelsmann—the former Bayern Munich and Germany manager—as their leading candidate to replace him.
The 39-year-old, who stepped down as Germany manager after a disappointing World Cup, was linked with the job before Carrick was appointed permanently in May and reportedly has supporters among the club’s senior leadership.
Another German coach, Fabian Hürzeler—currently in charge of Brighton & Hove Albion—is also a candidate, alongside Antonio Conte and Eddie Howe.
