NANS hails Alausa over education reforms

National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, for reforms it said were raising standards and repositioning Nigeria’s education sector.

In a statement signed by its President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, on Friday, the association, which represents over 40.1 million Nigerian students, said Alausa had made a significant difference since assuming office.

NANS said it was encouraged by the reforms being introduced to improve the education system, noting that the policies directly affected students across the country.

The association specifically highlighted the expansion of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), the introduction of a revised curriculum with greater emphasis on practical skills and digital literacy, and efforts to accelerate digital transformation in the sector.

It also acknowledged the minister’s ongoing efforts to improve education financing and address persistent challenges confronting the sector.

“These are important steps towards building an education system that responds to the needs of the present and prepares young Nigerians for the future.

“You have no doubt been exceptional in all your orchestrations and dispositions as the Honourable Minister of Education. You have upped the standard. You have identified the need to change the status quo, challenge long-standing limitations and elevate the standard.”

The association added, “We identify with and commend Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa for his giant strides. He is the best.”

However, NANS urged the minister to sustain the momentum, deepen engagement with student representatives and relevant government agencies, and ensure that the reforms deliver lasting improvements in the education sector.
