The Night in Context
Bourbon Street keeps a weekly Tuesday jazz series, and tonight it runs beside a Coltrane tribute at the Blue Note and two Brazilian roots shows at Casa de Francisca.
Casa de Francisca is housed in the Palacete Teresa in the old centre, a building that was once São Paulo’s “musical corner”. The venue has two rooms, a seated hall and a standing basement, and tonight uses both for Brazilian and world music.
Avenida Paulista is the city’s main cultural and financial avenue. The Blue Note sits inside the Conjunto Nacional, a large building complex on the avenue, with Metro stations nearby.
Brazil also votes in the presidential runoff on Sunday 25 October, five days from tonight. Election day is a Sunday, so check transport and opening hours before you plan that weekend.
Prices and line-ups come from listings checked on 20 October and can change at the door.
Practical Notes
- —Transport The Blue Note is a short walk from Metro stations on Avenida Paulista. Casa de Francisca is in the old centre, so take a rideshare through Uber or 99 to the door.
- —Weather The temperature falls from 21°C (70°F) in the afternoon to about 14°C (57°F) by 10 p.m. Bring a jacket, because the evening is much cooler than the day.
- —Tickets Buy through the official sellers, Eventim for the Blue Note and each venue’s own site for the others. Avoid street resellers.
- —Safety Carry a copy of your passport rather than the original, keep phones in a front pocket and agree the pick-up point with your driver before the show ends.
What We Could Not Confirm
- —Blue Note We found no ticket price for the evening, and we could not confirm the musicians beyond the group name Musicman Jazz.
- —Casa de Francisca We found no ticket price for Orquestra Mundana Refugi, and we could not confirm whether the free forró tickets are already gone.
- —Other venues We found no listing for tonight at Casa Natura Musical.
