The Dera Ismail Khan district administration has imposed Section 144 until November 11, prohibiting pillion riding, public gatherings, rallies and processions amid law and order concerns.
Deputy Commissioner Hikmatullah issued the order on October 13, and the restrictions took effect immediately. The order prohibits meetings, rallies, processions and other public gatherings that could threaten public order, disrupt traffic or obstruct citizens’ movement.
The administration has also banned the display of weapons and the installation of tents and temporary structures on public roads. Officials warned that anyone violating the restrictions would face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The restrictions will remain in effect throughout the district until November 11 unless the competent authority withdraws or amends the order earlier.
Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure empowers local authorities to restrict activities, including public gatherings, rallies, processions, sit-ins and the open display of weapons, to maintain public order.
Several other areas of Pakistan have also imposed restrictions under Section 144. Karachi introduced the measure on Sunday through October 20, while Rawalpindi district imposed it for 30 days on Saturday.
