In order to ensure the free movement of traffic and pedestrian safety, Nagercoil Corporation has warned the public against storing construction material on roadsides.
The public has been instructed to store the materials only within construction sites and cautioned that action will be taken against those who violate the rules.
The Corporation has stated that the storage of these construction materials, including sand, bricks, cement bags on public roads, footpaths and roadsides obstruct traffic and pose serious risk to pedestrians.
In a press statement, the Corporation said that action would be taken under Section 137 of the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act,1988, as amended against those causing obstructions by stacking construction materials on streets. If the materials are not removed within the period specified in the notice issued by the Corporation, the civic body will remove them in accordance with law and order and recover the removal expenses from persons concerned. In addition, applicable penalties will also be imposed, it stated.
Nagercoil Corporation Commissioner R. Ishwarya said that violations identified during field inspections would invite appropriate statutory action. Building owners, contractors and members of the public have been instructed to comply with these directions and extend their cooperation to the corporation in ensuring road safety and the free movement of traffic and pedestrians.
