The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) announced today that it is proceeding with the rehabilitation of units six and seven at the West Tripoli power plant. This comes after a 14-year hiatus.
GECOL said the project aims to restore approximately 200 megawatts of generation capacity to the grid.
The news of the restoration of approximately 200 megawatts of generation capacity to the grid will be much welcomed by the general public following a harrowing summer of power cuts and blackouts.
The power cuts and blackouts led to violent demonstrations that threatened to bring down the Tripoli based Libyan government.
