When it comes to spring 2027 accessories, there’s a bit of awkwardness in the air. Shoes are either shrinking to the point of bare-footedness or stacked to the gills with frills; belts are being piled on to an almost uncomfortable degree, and tights—an accessory usually saved for the fall season—are everywhere. Designers are no longer proposing we save our craziest pieces for our most special occasions, and as a result, in this upside-down world of fashion, eccentricities are reigning supreme.
In need of a metallic fringed egg carrier? Kallmeyer has you covered. A belt bag with pockets galore the size of the mini skirt it’s layered over? Check out Sandy Liang. Elsewhere, designers from Dries Van Noten to Chanel’s Matthieu Blazy dialed up the heat on clashing and contrasting heaps of kooky extras.
Barely-There Shoes (Or None at All)
Are feet the most lasting accessory of our time? Almost every designer seems to think so. At Calvin Klein, crocheted sandals got as close to the concrete as physically possible, while JW Anderson, Chopova Lowena, and 7 For All Mankind, barefoot was, in fact, better.
Belts on Belts on Belts
A new kind of modern corset has emerged: the oversized and double layered belt. Bonus points for wearing one undone and one cinched tight.
Bug-Eyed
If last season’s sunnies were all about sport, this season’s were devoted to leisure. Wide-eyed and a little kooky, these Twiggy-eqsue frames channeled an incognito retro Riviera look everywhere from Michael Rider’s Celine to Sabyasachi.
Fruit of the Loom
As Laird Borrelli-Persson pointed out in her trend report, openwork textiles added a sense of lightness to spring clothes. This transferred to accessories too, whether in the form of a netted bag at Dior or a crocheted yarn purse at Anna Sui.
Not All That Glitters Is Gold
Anthony Vaccarello bade adieu to 10 years of Saint Laurent with a collection gilded in gold, but silver hardware also had its moment shining in the sun—a win for the cool-toned fashion enthusiasts.
Put on Your Party Shoes
Take note of Dries Van Noten’s glittering pumps and Loewe’s bow-laden heels: Anytime is a great time to break out the special occasion shoes. Call it the “wrong shoe theory” or classic maximalism—designers are pushing customers to embrace the eccentricity of everyday luxury.
A Jaunty Little Hat
For the spring 2027 accessories, funky headwear took two different routes: a floppy little sunhat, crocheted or otherwise, or a structured chapeau with an avant-garde twist.
Hands-Free and High-Tech
Fashion is leaning a little more sportscore than gorpcore these days, but that doesn’t mean that designers can’t hang onto more technical accessories.
Paillettes, Please!
Move over basic sequins, your flirtier, flouncier sister is here. At Burberry, Daniel Lee turned paillettes into IRL emojis, sending these micro-expressions bouncing down the runway.
3D Florals For Spring
How do designers tackle florals every spring without leaning into the cliché? This season embroidery, texture, and, at times, actual bouquets brought the motif to life.
From Ballet to the Bar
Tights are usually considered a cold weather staple, but with spring’s emphasis on skirts, tights provide a welcome pop of color and contrast, as seen in Simone Bellotti’s quirkily minimal Jil Sander.
Tying Up Loose Ends
On the other end of the belt spectrum, designers are using the teeniest of ropes to tie an outfit together.
Fringetastic
Fashion is in full swing, and we don’t mean because of all the creative director shakeups. Rachel Comey made the case for matching the fringe from your handbags to your toes while Kallmeyer offered a peculiar method of carrying eggs home from your local farmer’s market.
