Sarah Palin is mourning her longtime boyfriend, former NHL star Ron Duguay, after he died Thursday following a battle with stage 4 cancer.
The former New York Rangers standout was 69 and had been undergoing treatment after cancer that began in his colon spread elsewhere in his body.
His death leaves family, friends and the hockey community mourning a player who spent 12 seasons in the NHL, while Palin said a celebration of his life would be announced later.

“It’s with a shattered heart, but also deep peace knowing Ron is with Jesus now,” Palin wrote on Instagram Stories. “He fought so hard. Love never ends.”
Duguay’s daughter Shay Thomas also announced his death Thursday, saying her father had died after his fight with cancer and writing, “Our hearts are broken. We love you forever, Dad.”
Days before his death, Palin, 62, had shared an image of herself holding Duguay’s hand as he lay in a hospital bed and asked followers for prayers.
The New York Rangers, who drafted Duguay in the first round in 1977, remembered him Thursday as “one of the most popular players in franchise history.” The organization said his distinctive skating style, talent and personality had earned the affection of New York fans.
