KUALA LUMPUR: A sports equipment shop at Kompleks Maluri, Jalan Jejaka, here, was almost completely destroyed in a fire this afternoon.
Kuala Lumpur fire and rescue department operations commander Mohd Amirrul Azmi said the department received an emergency call at 1.31pm.
He said 11 firefighters from the Pudu and Jalan Hang Tuah fire stations were dispatched to the scene.
"Upon arrival at 1.38pm, firefighters found that the fire involved a sports equipment shop measuring 10 feet by six feet.
"The fire was brought under control at 1.44pm, preventing it from spreading to the surrounding premises," he said in a statement today.
Amirrul said about 90 per cent of the shop was destroyed in the blaze.
Photographs released by the department showed the shop's interior gutted by flames, with blackened walls, a soot-covered ceiling and badly damaged metal shelving.
Charred equipment, shattered glass and debris were strewn across the floor, while parts of the shop's fittings appeared to have collapsed during the fire.
Firefighters were also seen conducting operations inside the premises, which was later cordoned off with fire and rescue department tape.
No casualties were reported.
The firefighting operation ended at 2.46pm, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
