ULSAN — Ulsan is stepping up on-site inspections of local plants that emit lead, aiming to curb air and water pollution caused by hazardous substances.
The city said on the 15th that it will conduct special inspections of environmental management practices at nine lead-emitting facilities among air and wastewater discharge sites between the 15th and the 23rd. The move follows recent cases at some industrial sites where lead exposure exceeded permitted levels, raising concerns about worker health and environmental contamination.
The city has formed a six-member joint inspection team with the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office and the Health and Environment Research Institute to collect samples from discharge outlets and conduct detailed analysis of lead content. If serious violations such as failure to operate pollution control equipment or unauthorized discharges are found, the city said it will apply a zero-tolerance policy, imposing penalties including suspension of operations and referral for criminal prosecution.
