The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has imposed a fine of ₹20,000 on a pub in Jubilee Hills for misusing water. The Board also disconnected the drinking water connection to the facility and suspended all commercial water tanker supplies.
The pub, Forefathers, on Road No. 45 in Jubilee Hills, was found violating the rules, officials said. Its staff were seen washing the front area of the premises with piped water, officials who conducted a field inspection after receiving a complaint said.
The Board said that it would take stringent action against establishments found wasting or misusing drinking water. With concerns over availability of water during the upcoming summer, the Board has urged residents and commercial establishments, including hotels, restaurants and pubs, to use water responsibly and avoid wastage.
It further appealed to the public to report incidents of drinking water wastage and misuse through its WhatsApp number 9949930003. Complainants can also share photographs, videos, details of the individuals or establishments involved, and the location and full address of the incident. Complaints can also be registered through the Board’s customer care number 155313.
Officials assured that complaints would be verified through field-level inspections and appropriate action would be taken against violators. The details of members of the public or volunteers who report violations would be kept confidential.
The Board urged citizens to cooperate with its efforts to conserve drinking water and warned that violations would invite penalties and disconnection of water supplies.
