Sam Heughan, the Scottish star and producer of Starz’s hit historical fantasy Outlander, has found his next TV project.
He’s set to star opposite EGOT winner Viola Davis in Ascent, a Paramount+ series created by John Logan and produced by Paramount Television Studios, which shoots in Los Angeles next year.
Ascent is billed as a character-driven thriller set in the dangerous world of global corporate crisis and damage control.
Heughan will play Conal, a top agent at Ascent Ventures. Lethally charming and a natural chameleon, Conal uses social cunning and ruthlessness to get the job done and always gets a thrill out of completing a mission.
As previously announced, Davis plays Catriona, an elite corporate fixer, who must weaponize the ruthless skills that have made her indispensable to billion-dollar clients when her estranged daughter is in danger.
Logan, the writer-producer known for the likes of Skyfall, Gladiator, Penny Dreadful, and the recent Michael Jackson film Michael, serves as showrunner and exec produces alongside Michael Aguilar (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, Kidding), as well as Davis & Julius Tennon for JuVee Productions.
Coming off the eighth and final season of Outlander, Heughan earned BAFTA Scotland and Critics’ Choice Award nominations for his work on the series. On television, he has also been seen in The Couple Next Door, Men in Kilts: A Road Trip with Sam and Graham, River City, Island at War, The Wild West and Party Animals. He will next appear in Embassy, a political thriller for MGM+, alongside J.K. Simmons and Anna Kendrick. He is repped by United Agents, UTA, and Anonymous Content.
