Has the Cowboys' offense caught up to the defense in terms of futility?
Their most recent loss in Green Bay didn't inspire much confidence from fans, or from Troy Aikman.
The hall-of-fame quarterback joined Sportsradio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM) for his weekly spot on Thursday and discussed Dallas' struggles on offense against the Packers. He also recalled one of his most vivid memories of the Cowboys-Eagles rivalry as the teams prepare to square off in Philadelphia on Monday night.
Much of the blame for Sunday night's defeat was put on Dak Prescott, who threw multiple interceptions for the second-straight game. Aikman, however, pointed to the Cowboys' lack of a run game — and their apparent unwillingness to run the ball consistently — as a reason for why Dallas has been playing from behind the last two weeks.
"I think it'd be fair to say that even in the first half of games or in one score games, they've gotten away from some of those things," Aikman said. "And you know, last week I think they handed the ball off to Javonte Williams three times on the opening possession, and he had eight carries the rest of the game. Even at 17-0 at halftime, that game's far from being over. You've got to make some stops, and you've got to score points. But it does not have to become a track meet just throwing the football."
Heading into Monday's clash with Philadelphia, the Cowboys will have to think about a change in philosophy to spark their offense. It won't be easy on the road at Lincoln Financial Field. Despite the Eagles' struggles this year, their fans are still some of the most vociferous in the NFL.
"It was never a fun place to play. It was especially not fun at night in primetime games," Aikman joked. "I think back vividly, we were both 3-0 going into the game in '92, and and we played on Halloween night, and they took it to us pretty good. We had the last laugh, though. We won in the postseason and won our first Super Bowl. But Philadelphia, I didn't even know that the sun ever came out there for those Sunday afternoon games. It seemed like we never played when the sun was out."
