WOKHA, OCT 16 (NPN): Don Bosco Alumni Association (DBAA), Wokha Unit, in collaboration with the Wokha Bar Association, organised a legal awareness and career guidance programme for students at Don Bosco Youth Centre, Wokha, on October 16. The programme focused on legal rights, child protection, cyber safety and career opportunities in the legal profession.
In the first session, advocate Zujanbeni L. Tsanglao sensitised Class 10 students on the Right to Education Act, 2009, cyber safety, child protection and substance abuse. She explained that Article 21A of the Constitution guarantees free and compulsory education for children aged six to 14 years, and urged students to speak up against child labour and denial of educational opportunities.
On digital safety, she cautioned students against cybercrimes such as identity theft, impersonation and circulation of harmful content on social media. She highlighted provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, warning against online blackmail, sharing intimate images and violations of personal boundaries. She encouraged students facing harassment or exploitation to seek help from trusted adults or appropriate authorities. Tsanglao also spoke on the dangers of substance abuse and provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, urging students to understand their legal rights and responsibilities and make informed decisions. In the second session, Assistant Public Prosecutor Advocate Renbemo Tungoe spoke on career opportunities in law. He explained that students could pursue a five year integrated law course after Class 12 or a three year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree after graduation.
He noted that the legal profession extended beyond courtroom practice, offering opportunities in corporate organisations, business, cyber law, intellectual property law and legal documentation. He encouraged students to develop analytical thinking, confidence and patience, noting that a successful legal career required dedication and continuous learning. Earlier, DBAA Wokha Unit president Wobenthung J. Patton led an orientation session on the values and legacy of Don Bosco. In his welcome address, Rev. Fr. Stephen Chazhisseril SDB, Unit Delegate of DBAA Wokha Unit and principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha, thanked the Wokha Bar Association and organisers for bringing legal professionals and students together.
