If your music project has more open plugin windows than you can comfortably count, Pine DSP has something that might help. The company has launched Blox Rack, a modular effects plugin that brings six familiar audio processors together in one customizable workspace. Inspired by traditional studio equipment racks, Blox Rack includes an equalizer, compressor, chorus, delay, reverb and exciter. Users can arrange these effects across nine slots, change their order or run several in parallel, making it possible to build anything from a simple vocal chain to considerably stranger sounds.
One interesting addition is the pop-out horizontal panel. While the main interface uses vertically stacked modules, the extra panel provides a larger view for detailed EQ adjustments, modulation and ducking. In plain English, that last feature can automatically lower the volume of echoes or reverb when the original sound comes through, keeping things from turning into an audio traffic jam.
