Natasha drops 2baba’s surname amid fresh speculation

Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly and wife of Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has sparked fresh speculation about the state of their marriage after introducing herself by her Osawaru surname during a plenary session.

The lawmaker, who represents Egor Constituency and serves as the minority leader of the assembly, identified herself as “Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru” while addressing her colleagues on Tuesday.

A video shared on her Instagram page showed her introducing herself using the Osawaru surname, while the nameplate in front of her also displayed the name without Idibia.

The development has generated public interest, coming amid recent discussions about the couple’s relationship, including Natasha’s reported absence from the singer’s 51st birthday celebration and album listening party in Lagos.

Although the development has fuelled speculation about a possible separation, neither Natasha nor 2Baba was reported to have publicly confirmed that their marriage had ended.

Natasha speaks during plenary

The lawmaker made the introduction while contributing to deliberations on a bill aimed at strengthening emergency response in Edo State.

Addressing the Speaker and other members of the assembly, she said: “Mr Speaker, my name is Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osawaru, member representing the very great people of Egor Constituency and, by God’s grace, the minority leader of this House.”

She subsequently highlighted the need for a legally backed state agency capable of responding proactively to emergencies.

“Speaker, as we speak, we have no strong, legally backed state agency that can respond proactively. Hence, this bill is timely,” she said.

While her contribution focused on the proposed legislation and the need to improve emergency management in the state, the name she used during the session attracted attention after the video circulated online.

The nameplate in front of her also displayed Osawaru, further drawing attention to the omission of Idibia from her introduction.

The development has prompted questions about the significance of her choice of surname, particularly because she had previously included Idibia when introducing herself during an earlier legislative session.

How Natasha previously used the Idibia name

In April 2025, Natasha reportedly included Idibia in her introduction during a plenary session of the Edo State House of Assembly.

At the time, she introduced herself as “Honourable Natasha Irobosa Osaworu, née Idibia” before proceeding with her speech.

The contrast between the earlier introduction and Tuesday’s appearance has become a major point of discussion among observers following the couple’s relationship.

Her decision to use Osawaru without mentioning Idibia has been interpreted by some as a possible indication of a change in her personal circumstances.

However, the available information does not establish why she chose to use the surname on Tuesday or whether the decision was connected to any disagreement with her husband.

There has also been no reported official explanation from the lawmaker regarding the change.

Absence from 2Baba’s birthday celebration raises questions

The latest development comes amid renewed public interest in the couple following Natasha’s reported absence from 2Baba’s 51st birthday celebration and album listening party in Lagos.

The event, held in Victoria Island, reportedly attracted members of the singer’s family and several personalities from the entertainment industry.

Natasha’s absence from the gathering generated discussions about the state of their relationship, particularly as the event marked a significant occasion in the musician’s life.

However, her absence alone does not establish that there is a problem in the marriage, as no official explanation was provided in the report.

The combination of her absence from the event and her subsequent use of the Osawaru surname has nevertheless intensified speculation among social media users.

Viral nightclub video adds to speculation

The couple’s relationship had also attracted attention in August after a video circulated online that appeared to show them involved in a heated exchange at a nightclub in Abuja.

The footage generated reactions on social media, with some observers questioning whether the incident pointed to tension between the couple.

However, the circumstances surrounding the exchange and its implications for their relationship were not established in the report.

Neither the circulation of the video nor the subsequent online reactions amounted to confirmation that the couple were experiencing a marital breakdown.

The latest development has brought the earlier incident back into public discussion, with observers linking the various events while questioning whether they indicate a change in the relationship.

Natasha married 2Baba in July 2025

Natasha and 2Baba married in July 2025, following the singer’s separation from his former wife, Annie Macaulay Idibia.

The relationship attracted considerable public attention because of the musician’s celebrity status and the circumstances surrounding his previous marriage.

Natasha, who serves as a lawmaker in Edo State, has also maintained a public profile through her legislative responsibilities and relationship with the singer.

The couple later held a dedication ceremony for their first child together in February, marking another significant moment in their relationship.

Since their marriage, developments involving the couple have continued to attract attention from entertainment followers and social media users.

No official confirmation of separation

Despite the growing speculation, there has been no reported official confirmation from either Natasha or 2Baba that they have separated.

Natasha’s use of her Osawaru surname during the legislative session has become the latest development prompting questions about their marriage, but it does not independently establish that the relationship has ended.

Similarly, her reported absence from the singer’s birthday celebration and the viral nightclub video do not constitute proof of a separation.

Until either party makes a public statement clarifying the situation, claims that the couple have split remain unconfirmed.

For now, the lawmaker’s introduction during Tuesday’s plenary session has renewed public scrutiny of her relationship with the celebrated musician, with attention focused on whether either of them will address the speculation.
