The Atlanta Dream’s 79-65 win over the Golden State Valkyries in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals had Angel Reese’s imprint all over it.
The three-time WNBA All-Star erupted for a 30-point, 16-rebound double-double, dismantling a Valkyries defense that had been one of the league’s best all postseason, and fans couldn’t help but marvel at Reese’s historic night.
WNBA Fans Buzzing Over Angel Reese’s Historic Double-Double in Dream’s Game 2 Finals Win
Reese and the Dream were coming off a frustrating Game 1 defeat where the Valkyries managed to completely shut down the star forward in the second half.
The 24-year-old came out firing on all cylinders in Game 2, never allowing the Valkyries to slow her down this time.
At the final buzzer, Reese’s stat line read: 30 points, 16 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 2 blocks on 10-of-16 shooting from the field and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe.
SportsCenter captured the scale of her performance, posting, “ANGEL REESE HISTORIC GAME 2 👑 She’s just the third player in WNBA history with 30 points and 15 rebounds in a Finals game.”
ESPN Insights added another context to Reese’s achievement, writing, “OH WHAT A NIGHT 🏀 Angel Reese is also the first player in Dream history with 25 PTS and 10 REB in a playoff game!”
Underdog WNBA went further, putting her performance in historical context: “Youngest player with a 20-point double-double, WNBA Finals history: Angel Reese – 24 years, 166 days (tonight). Cappie Pondexter – 24 years, 252 days (2007). Jonquel Jones – 25 years, 269 days (2019).”
Reese’s historic production helped Atlanta even the best-of-seven series at 1-1. Fans have nothing but praise for the Dream star.
“Insane,” one fan simply put it.
Another fan took a shot at comparisons to the league’s other biggest star, writing, “Caitlin Clark won’t break this record btw.”
The numbers alone would have been enough to generate buzz, but the moment carried extra weight given where Reese was just six months earlier.
She was traded from the Chicago Sky to Atlanta in April 2026, a move that followed a turbulent second season in Chicago, which included a half-game suspension for comments she made about the team’s direction.
The Sky finished that season 10-34, going 1-13 without Reese on the court, before sending her to Atlanta for two first-round draft picks.
That backstory wasn’t lost on fans watching her torch the Valkyries in a Finals game.
“A special player, the 30 & 15 don’t even describe all she brings to the team. And the Chicago Sky gave her away for a hug and a high 5, I can’t believe it,” one fan wrote.
“I know they hating every second of this,” another added.
“As Shaq would say, ‘Superstars gotta show up on the road,'” one WNBA observer posted, referencing the fact that Reese pulled off her historic production on Valkyries turf.
Sports media personality Matthew Coller couldn’t resist a dig at Reese’s former team, writing, “Just thinking about the Chicago Sky tonight for no particular reason.”
The win marked the first Finals victory in Dream’s franchise history, and it came on the road against a Golden State team that hadn’t lost at home all postseason before Monday night.
Golden State head coach Natalie Nakase acknowledged Reese’s impact after the loss. “Her rebounding, her fight, it was at a high, like, high level tonight,” Nakase said.
Game 3 shifts to State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Wednesday, with the series now tied 1-1. Reese and the Dream will look to take a 2-1 lead.
