A 15-member inspection team of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expressed confidence in Nigeria’s preparations to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Abuja and the CAF Awards in Lagos.
The team, led by CAF Head of Safety and Security, Dr. Christian Emeruwa, is in Nigeria for the final assessment of facilities ahead of the two continental events slated for November 21 in Abuja and December 7 in Lagos.
Accompanied by a six-member NFF delegation led by Director of Communications, Dr. Ademola Olajire, the CAF officials inspected key facilities in Abuja, including the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Transcorp Hilton Hotel and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
During a meeting with National Sports Commission Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, the delegation reviewed accommodation, transportation, immigration, visa procedures and hospitality arrangements.
Dikko reaffirmed Federal Government’s commitment to delivering a world-class hosting, stressing Nigeria’s determination to showcase its capacity to organise major international events.
The NSC said accommodation and transportation concerns had been resolved, while plans for welcome dinner, entry permits and inter-agency coordination are being finalised.
A Local Organising Committee (LOC) is to be constituted and its membership communicated to CAF to ease coordination.
The inspection is the delegation’s second and final assessment following an earlier visit to Lagos. The first preparatory delegation is expected to arrive November 8, while the current team will submit its findings to CAF and depart November 23.
Nigeria’s hosting of the twin events will bring together top football administrators across Africa
