The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has deployed more than 1,000 newly recruited immigration officers at airports across Pakistan for the first time, on the instructions of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
FIA officials said the appointments are meant to bring greater transparency to airport immigration procedures and improve services for travellers. The officers will work in line with FIA immigration policies and rules, including checking travel documents and enforcing immigration laws.
Staff have been instructed to complete immigration clearance of the passengers according to established procedures and to use their powers correctly at immigration counters.
Officials said a new strategy has been prepared to address complaints about the behaviour of immigration staff. Measures are also being taken to prevent complaints involving the use of influence and alleged unofficial contacts at airports.
The initiative will focus on transparency, professional conduct and passenger convenience, with polite and fair treatment of travellers a key part of the plan. Officials added that the new staff are expected to apply immigration rules consistently.
The deployment forms part of wider efforts to improve the immigration process, strengthen accountability and ensure fair treatment of passengers at airport counters.
FIA Activates Islamabad Airport Helpline
Separately, the FIA has activated an official helpline for its Pre-Departure Facilitation Desk at Islamabad International Airport to assist passengers with travel documents, immigration queries and other travel guidance.
An FIA official said 0303-5099581 is the only official helpline and that 0300-5805760 is not an official number. The helpline operates from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and passengers can call before travelling abroad.
The service is intended to help passengers check their documents, understand immigration requirements and avoid problems at the airport. Passengers can also visit the desk at the airport in person for document checking and guidance.
The official advised passengers to use only the official number for help with travel documents and immigration matters. He said the FIA is committed to providing timely guidance and making travel easier and safer, so that travellers can complete the required procedures without confusion.
