THANKS ODIE
Heartbroken to hear about the passing of Lyle Odelein. I loved watching ‘Odie’ play. Reliable, tough, and all heart. He was the kind of teammate who would go to war for you without a second thought. As a fan, you never forgot that. My deepest condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who loved him. Rest in peace, Odie. Thank you for the memories.

CHOW’S DEFINITION OF “EVERYONE”
Re “Olivia Chow promises more free activities for Toronto families” (Spiro Pauckoski, Oct. 3): I remember from Economics 101 that if you were providing a product or service for fee to cover expenses, then you decided to reduce or eliminate those fees, you would need to find an alternative revenue stream to pay for them. Otherwise, they could not be provided. No problem for Chow. She has the bottomless city tax base for funding. That brought to mind a line from one of her campaign speeches made during the last mayoral race where she stated in effect that her intention was “to make Toronto a more affordable city for everyone. We just have to ask people to pay a little more.” I have yet to hear a definition of who gets to be an “everyone” and who has to be “asked to pay a little more.”

(It will be more of this if Chow is re-elected. A costlier city, a broke city, a dirty city and a dangerous city)
A COMPLETE HISTORY
Re “Judge history on facts, not emotion” (Editorial, Oct. 4): I enjoyed your article. My grandfather was orphaned in Britain and was known as one of the Barnardo Boys because he came from one of the Barnardo orphanages in London. He was sent to Canada at age 11 and he worked as an indentured servant, in effect a slave, on a farm in Ontario until he gained his freedom when he turned 16. Although many of the orphans sent were treated badly, he was not. As you stated, some are mistreated, some were not. History is rarely all one sided.
