AUSTIN - After suffering its second consecutive loss for the first time since 2021, seventh-ranked Texas plummeted 12 spots in the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll, falling to No. 19.
The Longhorns (4-2) lost 27-24 to unranked Florida, which re-entered the poll as one of eight SEC teams in the rankings. However, the Gators trailed Texas by one spot, sitting at No. 20 despite the upset.
By virtue of its 35-32 win over Oklahoma State, Houston (6-1) climbed to No. 14 for its highest ranking of the season. The Cougars travel to No. 10 Utah next Saturday.
TEXAS COLLEGE RANKINGS:No doubts for Tech and UH but plenty for UT
Miami held off Florida State in a double-overtime thriller 43-35 and became the new No. 1 team after five of the seven teams in last week's Top 10 all were upset, the first time that has happened in the history of the poll dating to 1936. No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 Indiana, No. 6 Alabama and Texas all were knocked off Saturday.
The Hurricanes, one of just six unbeaten FBS teams, becomes the fourth team to inherit the top spot in the poll, replacing Georgia after the Bulldogs were upset by Auburn. Ohio State was the preseason No. 1 and Texas ascended to that position after beating the Buckeyes but fell out of the No. 1 spot when the Longhorns lost to Oklahoma. Georgia is now No. 5.
