..Bali's fuel quota had not been reduced.
Badung, Bali (ANTARA) -
Bali Governor Wayan Koster assured the public that tourism activities on the island remain safe despite queues at several gas stations.
"So far, tourism is safe," Koster said on Friday when asked about the condition of the tourism sector amidst the fuel distribution issues.
He acknowledged, however, that the disruptions had affected public activities.
Koster said the local government and state-owned energy company Pertamina were prioritizing smooth fuel distribution and service provision to prevent further disruptions to daily activities.
“We have not yet calculated the impact, but it is certainly affecting activities. It has reduced activity. So, let us focus first on ensuring smooth fuel distribution and services,” he said.
Meanwhile, vehicle queues at several gas stations remain a concern for the government.
Koster explained that one of the causes of the disruption was a delay involving a ship carrying 18 million liters of fuel.
“The ship was scheduled to dock on Sunday morning (October 11), but did not arrive until around 10 p.m. local time. This delay disrupted the scheduled fuel distribution to the depot,” he explained.
Koster said Bali's fuel quota remained adequate under normal distribution conditions, adding that a one-day delay could affect supplies at individual gas stations.
However, distribution could not be restored immediately due to limited tanker trucks and available personnel. Consequently, fuel deliveries to gas stations were being carried out in stages.
The governor stressed that Bali's fuel quota had not been reduced.
Based on the local government's calculations, the allocated supply was sufficient to meet public demand.
He also urged residents whose vehicles still had sufficient fuel not to rush to refuel, saying this would help ease queues and ensure supplies remained available for those who needed them most.
Koster expressed hope that the recovery of fuel distribution would soon ease congestion at gas stations and help maintain the mobility of residents and tourists.
