The Clippers made their move after Christie, 21, cleared waivers. Christie will occupy the Clippers’ final two-way spot, as guard Jalen Pickett and forward Nick Martinelli occupy the other two spots.
Christie, a promising shooting prospect out of Minnesota, took on a bigger role for the Clippers in his second year in the NBA, though still managed just 8.7 minutes per game last season. He averaged 2.8 points per game—double his average from the season prior—while also logging 1.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. His natural athleticism make him a solid rebounder, as he showed during the preseason despite generally lackluster performances elsewhere.
The biggest issue in Christie’s game so far is his efficiency, as he’s shooting just 36.8% from the field in his two seasons. He shot 39.1% from deep in his sole collegiate season, but those skills haven’t translated to the NBA yet, as he’s only converting 3-point attempts at a 22.6% clip through his 68 games in the league.
Why Did the Clippers Waive Cam Christie?
The Clippers waived Christie just one day before his minimum-salary contract became guaranteed, likely factoring into their decision to waive him after both parties agreed to push back his salary guarantee date twice during the offseason.
On top of that, though, the Clippers have plenty of guard talent which may keep Christie on the sidelines.
No. 5 overall pick Keaton Wagler figures to get most of the minutes at shooting guard, with Darius Garland running point for most of the season. Behind them, Kris Dunn and Bradley Beal—if he plays—can take over, and Gradey Dick and Kobe Sanders also lie in their ranks.
With their re-signing of Christie, the Clippers now have all 15 of their roster spots and all three of their two-way spots filled, and will look forward to the beginning of the regular season. They’ll look to get off on the right foot in the 2026-27 season, as they face a Sacramento Kings team on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. PT who is projected to finish towards the bottom of the conference once again.
