More than 1,000 beneficiaries of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) have so far accessed employment opportunities in different countries under its Labour Exchange Programme, Chief Executive Officer Malik Basintale has announced.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at Jubilee House today, Wednesday, October 21, Mr Basintale said the initiative was part of efforts to expand employment opportunities for Ghanaian youth beyond the domestic labour market.
The programme, also known as the Work Abroad Programme, is intended to connect young Ghanaians with overseas vacancies through structured and lawful labour migration pathways.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, we have also expanded our employment interventions beyond the shores of Ghana through the introduction of the Labour Exchange Programme,” he said.
He added: “We recognise that the global labour market presents legitimate opportunities for Ghanaian youth, and our responsibility is to facilitate access to such opportunities through structured and lawful employment arrangements.”
The programme forms part of the YEA’s broader approach to creating opportunities for young people to acquire skills, earn incomes and improve their economic circumstances.
Mr Basintale said the Agency would continue pursuing interventions that respond to changing labour market demands and the aspirations of young Ghanaians. He did not specify the countries in which the beneficiaries had secured employment or provide a breakdown of the jobs obtained under the programme.
