What do a birthday cake and a stalk of celery have in common? Not much, you would think.

However, both these “foods” are actually the Colour of the Year for 2027.
Birthday Cake, from Dulux, a pale dusty rose infused with grey-brown undertones, is its colour standout for 2027, while Celery, from Sherwin-Williams, a soft, muted green with subtle yellow undertones is its selection.
But if these colours don’t whet your appetite, perhaps Behr’s Grounded, Sico’s Glazed Earth or maybe BeautiTone’s Rosewater are more your speed?

To help you decide which 2027 colour of the year makes more sense for your home, let’s dig a little deeper into the shades and why these dreamy colours deserve a place on your walls.
Birthday Cake is designed to add subtle sophistication and depth to living spaces while emitting a feeling of calm and tranquility, Dulux said.
“People today long to rise above the weight of the world and bring more joy into their everyday lives and a muted, soothing pink wraps rooms with a sense of optimism, playfulness and emotional well-being that so many of us crave,” said Victoria Mastroianni, senior brand manager for Dulux Paints, likening the trending pink to an uplifting hug.
Meanwhile, Home Hardware’s BeautiTone also signals a shift toward softer, warmer interiors with its Rosewater option.
A soft, radiant pink with subtle yellow undertones, Rosewater is said to balance comfort with sophistication, offering a fresh take on creating calm, lived-in spaces.
“Home is where we recharge, reconnect and find moments of calm amid busy lives,” said Donna Robertson, paint consultant, BeautiTone paint and home products. “Across Canada, we’re seeing homeowners move away from stark, high contrast interiors toward colours that feel warmer, more approachable and enduring. Rosewater brings that warmth and softness into the home while maintaining a refined look that homeowners can build around for years to come.”

Continuing on this trek behind 2027’s top choices, the following companies have painted a somewhat different picture.
Bold colours are making a comeback, according to paint brand Sico in unveiling Glazed Earth as its 2027 Colour of the Year. A rich terracotta brown, Sico wants you to think of sunbaked earth and rustic clay, steeped with hints of dusty red and orange that emits a cozy, resilient and timeless feel.
“Terracotta is subdued and nurturing rather than loud, reminiscent of natural elements like soil, stone and pottery,” said Oriana Gagnon Martinez, marketing manager of the Sico brand. “An uber warm and welcoming neutral, it fills spaces with relaxed elegance that encourages people to slow down, feel grounded and find strength in the reassuring familiarity of home.”
Also going bold is Behr, with Grounded, an earthy olive green inspired by nature and rooted in renewal.
This natural shade moves effortlessly between olive and moss, anchored by subtle brown undertones that bring the outdoors in.
“Grounded is a reminder that the most meaningful spaces are the ones that help us reconnect with the rhythms of everyday life,” said Kayla Kratz, head of colour at Behr Paint Co. “Its organic warmth creates a sense of calm and renewal, making every room feel inviting and effortlessly livable.”
In going for a lighter look for 2027, Sherwin-Williams said Celery offers a fresh perspective on comfort and calm, bringing a light and airy presence to interiors while encouraging a renewed sense of balance in daily life.
“Celery was chosen as the 2027 Colour of the Year because it reflects today’s priorities: wellness, balance and connection,” said Ashley Banbury, colour marketing manager at Sherwin-Williams. “Homeowners and designers are increasingly prioritizing wellness at home, seeking soothing environments that support mental health and overall well-being. This shift has also fuelled interest in eco-inspired design, with a greater emphasis on bringing elements of the natural world indoors through colour, while a sustainability mindset is shaping preferences for hues that feel enduring.”
