Dibrugarh, Oct 18: A Durga Puja pandal in Dibrugarh is drawing crowds with a theme rooted in Assam’s 200-year-old tea heritage, recreating the life and traditions of tea garden communities using bamboo and natural tea bushes.
The Graham Bazar Durga Puja Committee has designed its pandal around the state’s tea gardens, highlighting the cultural traditions and everyday lives of the communities that have shaped Assam’s tea industry.
Built using eco-friendly bamboo and tea bushes, the pandal also promotes a plastic-free celebration, with organisers relying on locally available natural materials.
The tea theme extends beyond the pandal’s design. Manohari Tea Estate, which has associated with the initiative, is serving around 5,000 cups of Assam tea daily during the Durga Puja celebrations, bringing the state’s signature beverage into the festivities.
“We have used only eco-friendly materials, and our puja pandal is attracting a huge crowd. Our theme is based on Assam tea and its 200-year-old legacy. Through this initiative, we are trying to showcase the rich heritage of Assam tea,” said Jitendra Srivastav, a member of the puja committee.
The initiative puts the spotlight on the people and traditions behind Assam’s tea industry, making the pandal a tribute to the state’s tea garden heritage as well as an example of how local materials can shape festive celebrations.
