A driver in his thirties was arrested on Sunday after losing control of his car, mounting the pavement and knocking down four German people who were waiting at a bus stop by Son Fusteret in Palma.
The incident occurred around quarter to seven in the morning. The car first hit a hydrant and subsequently tore a litter bin from a lamppost. One of the four people suffered serious injuries to a leg; the other three were less seriously injuries. They were all taken to hospital.
He tested positive for alcohol - three times over the limit - and was arrested, charged with offences against road safety, gross negligence and causing injury.
Medical reports regarding the injuries and possible long-term implications will form part of the police investigation. He was taken to a police station and is due to appear in court.
The injured people were waiting for a bus to take them to the start of the Palma Marathon in which they were meant to have taken part.
