Minister for Energy and Law C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar here on Saturday inaugurated the newly constructed bus terminus built at a cost of ₹8.50 crore under the Integrated Assigned Revenue Scheme in Chekkanurani in Tirumangalam Panchayat Union.
Facilities established in the bus terminus included seven bus bays, 27 commercial shops, two restaurants, two waiting rooms for men, two waiting rooms for women and nursing mothers, a transport office, a police office, restroom facilities for both men and women, and 21 vegetable market stalls.
Speaking there, he said, as the bus stand work was lagging behind, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government expedited the works and completed the works earlier.
“Chekkanurani bus stand which connects the nearby villages is very important for the farmers and villagers around. It serves as a hub for the nearby regions,” he added.
Recognising the importance of the Usilampatti bus stand, the government has directed the officials to fasten the works carried out there.
“Further, we have also heard from the public about further upgradations required in the Chekkanurani bus stand and it will be taken to the Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay for approval,” he noted.
Regarding the works carried out in Madurai for upcoming rains, he said, all works which were stagnated for over five years in the previous government have all been kicked off.
“In Sellur following an inspection we have ordered the pipe laying works to be expedited and it is expected to be completed in the next five days. Along with this, many other works are also being carried out,” he said.
