GEORGE TOWN: A 57-year-old foreign woman died after being found submerged in a condominium swimming pool in Tanjung Bungah today.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abdul Rozak Muhammad said police received a report about the incident at 6.10pm.
He said preliminary investigations found that the woman had been undergoing aquatic therapy with her husband at the pool at 5.20pm.
"Her husband left her for about five minutes to answer a phone call from a friend. When he returned, he found her submerged in the pool, believed to have fallen off a float," he said.
Abdul Rozak said the husband immediately jumped into the pool, pulled her to the side and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
However, ambulance personnel pronounced her dead at the scene at 5.49pm.
Her body was sent to the Penang Hospital Forensic Department for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.
Abdul Rozak said preliminary investigations found no criminal elements. The case has been classified as sudden death, and investigations are ongoing.
