The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria, ALSCON Plc, over alleged money laundering offences involving N582.43m.
The company was arraigned on Monday, October 12, 2026, before Justice O. A. Egwuatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count amended charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/644/2025.
The EFCC disclosed this in a statement, adding that the charges also named the company’s director, Zavyalov Dmitry, whom it described as being at large.
According to the commission, ALSCON, a Designated Non-Financial Business and Profession, and its director allegedly failed to report certain transfers from the company’s account to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, as required by the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.
The transfers, made between March and July 2024, included N147.52m, N156.03m, N121.43m and N127.34m paid to Udatson Nigeria.
Other transactions listed in the charge were N15.12m paid to Urico Global Services in April 2024 and N15m paid to Christopher Azogu in June 2024.
The EFCC alleged that the company and its director failed to report the transactions in writing to SCUML as required by law.
The first count alleged that ALSCON and Dmitry, “sometime in March, 2024 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, failed to report in writing to the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML), a single transfer of the sum of N147,515,050.00” paid to Udatson Nigeria from an account operated by the company.
The charge stated that the alleged offence contravened provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and was punishable under Sections 11(3), 19(2)(b) and 22 of the Act.
The EFCC’s lead counsel, Ekele Iheanacho, SAN, told the court that the alleged offences were punishable under the cited provisions of the law.
When the charges were read, ALSCON’s Acting Managing Director, Ime Monday Inyang, pleaded not guilty to all six counts on the company’s behalf.
The company’s counsel had asked the court to quash the charges, arguing that the company was innocent of the allegations.
Following the plea, Justice Egwuatu adjourned the case until January 27, 2027, for commencement of trial.
