If You Only Go to One Place
Mr. Dan, pagode at Bar Templo, Mooca
The most complete night on offer: live pagode, a bar and a holiday crowd.
Tonight’s Top 3
1. Mr. Dan, pagode, at Bar Templo
Pagode is a relaxed, communal form of samba, played with cavaquinho (a small four-string guitar), a banjo-style instrument and hand percussion, in which the audience sings along. Tonight the singer Mr. Dan plays an opening slot at Bar Templo in Mooca.

- AddressBar Templo, Rua Guaimbé 322, Mooca.
- VerdictThe easiest pick for a holiday night out. For foreigners: standing entry is cheap, the crowd sings every chorus, and the music is easy to follow even without Portuguese. Book a table if you want a seat.
2. Exclusive Os Cabides, indie rock, at Casa Rockambole
Os Cabides is a rock band playing a night billed as “Exclusive” at the Casa Rockambole, a small music house in Pinheiros.
- TonightThe ticket page lists the event from 7 p.m. to 11:59 p.m., and one agenda gives 8:30 p.m. for the band. For ages 16 and over; 16 and 17-year-olds need a notarised guardian’s authorisation.

3. Trio Dona Zefa, forró party, at Canto da Ema
Forró is a dance music from north-east Brazil, played with accordion, triangle and a zabumba drum, and São Paulo has a long-standing forró scene. Tonight the Trio Dona Zefa plays at the Canto da Ema, a forró house in Pinheiros.

The Night in Context
Monday is normally the quietest night in São Paulo, because most big venues rest after the weekend. The holiday changes that only a little: the programme we could confirm is made up of mid-size bars, clubs and Sesc cultural centres.
That is a good moment to see the city’s everyday music. Pagode and forró are not tourist shows. They are the two styles that residents of Mooca and Pinheiros dance to, and a small ticket gets you into the same room as the locals. The two Pinheiros venues are close enough to compare in a single night.
Brazil also votes in the presidential runoff on 25 October, 13 days from tonight. Visitors need no papers for tonight’s events, but queues and road closures around polling day can affect transport later this month. Prices in this guide come from ticket pages and agendas checked on 12 October and can change at the door.
Practical Notes
- —Transport Use Uber or 99 for Mooca. For Pinheiros, the Fradique Coutinho Metro station is the nearest to Casa Rockambole. Public transport may run on a holiday timetable, so check the Metro and CPTM apps before you leave and keep a rideshare as a back-up.
- —Tickets Buy the Bar Templo ticket in advance on the Clube do Ingresso site. Check the Casa Rockambole and Canto da Ema pages again in the afternoon for prices and availability.
- —Rain Rain is most likely before 8 p.m. Plan to arrive after 8 p.m., or take a car to the door, and bring a light rain jacket.
- —Safety Keep phones out of sight on the street, and avoid waiting at the kerb in the rain. Wait inside the venue for the car.
