The Philadelphia Eagles are now 2-3 heading into their Week 6 matchup against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
It’s been a week filled with both good and bad news for the Eagles, who are expected to have DeVonta Smith and handful of other injured players back against the Panthers, but will be without quarterback Jalen Hurts for the foreseeable future as he deals with a blood clot in his calf.
Even with some injured players able to return, the Week 1 starting lineup is completely decimated, and now Tanner McKee will lead an offense whose running back depth is Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele. The Eagles were forced to put RB Will Shipley on IR, where he joined RB Tank Bigsby, and Saquon Barkley is still not ready to play due to a hamstring injury.
And, even if the Eagles did have Barkley or Bigsby or Shipley, the offensive line is still a young group trying to develop quickly. They struggled a lot in Week 5 to get anything going in the run game, and now have to adjust to McKee at QB. Despite opening Landon Dickerson’s practice window earlier in the week, the LG wasn’t activated to return just yet, and backup-turned-starting center Drew Kendall is still questionable for Sunday’s game.

Still, the Eagles have enough competent pieces offensively to compete against the Panthers, and the defense has been steadily improving through the first quarter of the season. If McKee is able to score points in the second half, there’s a chance they pull off a much-needed win.
