French automaker Citroën has reimagined one of its most iconic models, unveiling the 2 CV Concept, a compact electric car inspired by the original, at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, according to a company press release.
Citroën said the concept was primarily designed as a small, futuristic car that combines minimalist design with practicality. It draws inspiration from the original 2 CV, unveiled at the 1948 Paris Motor Show. Initially designed as a practical, affordable car, it became an icon thanks to its versatility, earning a reputation as a reliable workhorse.
The new concept is 3.76 meters long, making it shorter than the original 2 CV. Citroën is targeting a weight of around one ton, with a focus on agility.
The design also emphasizes simplicity. Citroën says the concept, like the original, adapts to all terrains, whether city or country.
The electric concept previews a future addition to Citroën’s lineup, positioned between the Ami and the C3. The production model is expected to join the range by 2028, with a target starting price of around €15,000 and manufacturing planned in Europe.

The concept features several distinctive details, including a single-spoke steering wheel, a single control lever, a paddle-shift gear selector and a Citroën Smart Vision display that keeps essential information within the driver’s field of vision. The cabin also features an 8-inch square touchscreen with comic-book-inspired graphics and a fabric sunroof.
Citroën has also paid tribute to the original 2 CV with door storage compartments designed to hold eggs. Other playful details include a tortoise on the brake pedal and a rabbit on the accelerator.
