Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving healthcare delivery and expanding access to quality education, saying lasting institutions are essential to sustainable development.
Shettima spoke on Friday in Maiduguri during the commissioning of the Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital and other projects executed by the administration of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
He commended Zulum for investing in healthcare and education, saying the true measure of leadership is the ability to build institutions that continue to serve the people beyond the tenure of their founders.
“We shall be judged by what survives our time in office. The offices we held, the aides who surrounded us, and the length of our convoys will have surrendered their importance. What will endure are the institutions we built, the roads we built and the lives we improved through service,” the Vice President said.
Shettima said the teaching hospital and schools established by the state government reflect Zulum’s commitment to ensuring that Borno’s recovery translates into better healthcare and educational opportunities for residents.
“The ultra-modern Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital and the schools that dot our landscape in Maiduguri and across the state give substance to his belief that Borno’s recovery must reach the patient awaiting treatment and the child sitting in a classroom,” he said.
He described healthcare as a critical investment in human capital, noting that a healthy population is better equipped to learn, work, innovate, and contribute to national development.
The Vice President assured that the Federal Government will continue to support efforts to improve healthcare services, extend access to underserved communities, and strengthen education.

The 400-bed Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital features 13 specialist departments alongside facilities for medical training, including a medical college complex, students’ hostel, 200-unit staff estate, and an oxygen plant complex.
Its equipment includes a 1.5-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging scanner, a 160-slice computed tomography scanner, conventional and mobile X-ray machines, 4D ultrasound machines, a fluoroscopy system, and a digital mammography machine.
The facility is expected to expand access to specialist medical care in Borno and neighbouring communities while supporting the training of doctors, nurses, and other health professionals.
Shettima also commissioned the Yerwa Practice Mega Primary School and another mega primary school established under the Kashim Shettima Free Education Programme, which provides free education to orphans and vulnerable children.
