Breaking Belize News journalist Zoila Palma was recognized as a stakeholder of Mopan Technical High School during the institution’s first stakeholder dinner last night, in appreciation of her continued efforts to promote the school’s programs and achievements.
Principal Dr. Katie Jones thanked Palma and Breaking Belize News for highlighting the institution’s initiatives, including its recent participation in the “I am Agriculture” video competition, where Mopan Technical High School secured second place.
During her remarks, Palma commended Dr. Jones, the school’s administration and educators for their dedication to students and the development of technical and vocational education. She encouraged educators to continue promoting, supporting and advocating for vocational and technical studies, emphasizing that students have different learning styles and abilities and should have opportunities to pursue educational paths that suit their strengths.
Palma, who also manages Palma’s Lumber & Supplies, shared how vocational training can translate into meaningful employment opportunities. She noted that one of the company’s recent interns is a proud graduate of Mopan Technical High School who initially visited the business during Career Week while studying carpentry.
His experience led to him being hired by Palma’s Lumber & Supplies, demonstrating how technical education can help bridge the gap between classroom learning and the workforce.
Palma expressed pride in being part of the Mopan Technical High School family and pledged to continue supporting and promoting the institution and its programs.
She highlighted the importance of recognizing vocational education as a valuable pathway for students to develop practical skills, pursue careers and contribute to Belize’s development.
