RUMBEK– Lakes State caretaker governor Rin Tueny Mabor has appointed 26 officials to state positions ahead of South Sudan’s Dec. 22 general elections, according to gubernatorial decrees read on state radio on Monday.
The appointments cover four advisers, seven ministers, four officials heading state institutions, a municipal mayor, eight county commissioners and two deputies.
The decrees direct the appointees to remain impartial during the electoral period and not use public resources for electoral advantage. They are also instructed to support peaceful campaigns, protect candidates and promote free and fair elections.
Tueny, who served as Lakes governor from 2021 until Kiir removed him in January 2026, was appointed caretaker governor following the president’s Sept. 22 dissolution of the transitional government.
