The Puzhal police have arrested a 21-year-old Nepali national who had escaped from Puzhal prison on Tuesday (October 20, 2026). They are, however, on the lookout for another 41-year-old prisoner, accused in a POCSO Act case, who had also escaped from the facility on Wednesday (October 21).
A senior official from the city police said Sudeep Bogati, a native of Nepal who was residing at Jesus Nathar Street in Kalaignar Nagar of Padi, was arrested on August 16 in connection with a theft at a private company. The accused was lodged in the block designated for foreign nationals within the Puzhal Central Prison complex.
On Tuesday morning, as per the daily routine, the prisoners were released from their cells. Later in the evening, the prison authorities discovered that Sudeep was missing. Based on a complaint filed by the prison authorities at the Puzhal police station, a case was registered. On Thursday, the police said they had arrested Sudeep when they found him wandering in the Thirumangalam area.
Another escape
Meanwhile, Suresh, of the Thirumangalam area, who was arrested in 2021 in a POCSO Act case and subsequently lodged at Puzhal, escaped from the facility on Wednesday. Owing to a good conduct report, the prison authorities had permitted Suresh to go to a shop located outside the prison every morning to assist prison guards in their canteen work. On Wednesday, at around 7 a.m., Suresh went to the shop as usual, but did not return.
The Puzhal police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the missing prisoner.
