Nvidia’s most powerful gaming card may be headed for the exit. Hardware leakers MEGAsizeGPU and hongxing2020 report that the company has stopped producing the GeForce RTX 5090 so it can steer its GB202 GPU die toward professional and AI data center products.
Nvidia has not confirmed any of this. Still, the report fits a pattern gamers already know: when AI wants something, AI usually gets it.
What the leakers are saying
The claim traces back to what is described as a factory notice dated around October 10, 2026. According to the leakers, that notice signals the end of RTX 5090 production.
Under the reported plan, all future GB202 silicon would go into RTX Pro cards. Those are Nvidia’s workstation products, built for professionals and increasingly bought for AI workloads.
The leaked notice also reportedly points to a new 24 GB RTX 5080. That card would step into the top slot of Nvidia’s consumer lineup if the 5090 does disappear.
As of October 12, 2026, Nvidia had not confirmed the production halt, despite wide coverage of the rumor. Many outlets have also noted that Nvidia has denied similar rumors before.
The price math behind the move
The RTX 5090 launched in January 2025 at a retail price of $1,999. Secondary market prices now exceed $5,000, with some listings reaching $9,500.
That surge has been driven by rising demand for AI inference, the work of actually running trained AI models.
The RTX Pro 6000 can sell for approximately $15,000 and offers up to 96 GB of memory. RTX Pro cards such as the RTX Pro 5500 and 6000 can fetch prices reaching up to $15,000. Measured against a $1,999 list price, the incentive to reroute silicon is hard to miss.
What this means for gamers, buyers, and the market
If production has truly stopped, the existing pool of RTX 5090 cards becomes finite. Supply constraints are expected given the heavy demand for high-end GPUs in AI applications, and those constraints may push prices higher still.
The rumored 24 GB RTX 5080 could offer some relief. It would give enthusiasts a new flagship option, though one with less memory than a card positioned for AI work would typically want.
The key thing to watch is confirmation. Until Nvidia addresses the report directly, this remains a leak backed by a reported factory notice, not an official product decision.
