Nine women are among 60 candidates contesting for House of Representatives seats in six Kaduna constituencies ahead of the 2027 elections, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s final list.
The candidates comprise 51 men and nine women, according to the list’s gender column, signed by Rose Oriaran-Anthony, INEC’s secretary.
The list shows that Kaduna North, Igabi, Chikun/Kajuru, Jema’a/Sanga, Sabon Gari and Kaura are the only six of the state’s 15 constituencies with female candidates.
In Kaduna North, Hassan Isah Fauziyya of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is the only female candidate among 10 contestants.
In Igabi, Ibrahim Fatima of the APM is the only woman among 11 candidates.
Chikun/Kajuru has three female candidates among 12 contestants, including Emmanuel Grace Adejo Princess of the ADP, Shehu Fatima of the APM, and Shekari Saratu Larai of the Labour Party.
In Jema’a/Sanga, Asabe Michael Akai of the Labour Party is the only female candidate among 10 contestants.
However, under Jema’s/Sanga, the INEC list records Yohana Elizabeth of the ADP as male, notwithstanding the name.
In Sabon Gari, Salihu Umar Rukayya of the LP is the only woman among eight candidates.
Kaura has two female candidates among nine contestants: Mercy Kolo of the ADC and Christiana Maria Baidi of the SDP.
The list forms part of INEC’s preparations for the 2027 elections, during which voters will elect members of the National Assembly and other political office holders.
