KPC’s Supreme Purchasing Committee approves contracts to repair Al-Fintas and provide towing, rescue and safety services following the Kazma 3 incident
The Supreme Purchasing Committee of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) and its subsidiaries has approved two emergency contracts for Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) worth a combined 4.296 million dinars to repair the tanker Al-Fintas and provide towing, rescue, safety and security services related to the Kazma 3 incident.
According to the committee’s decision published in the official gazette, Kuwait Alyawm, the first contract covers emergency repair work on Al-Fintas. The contract was awarded directly at a value of $6.986 million, equivalent to approximately 2.146 million dinars.
The second contract, also awarded directly, is valued at $7 million, or approximately 2.150 million dinars. It covers towing and rescue operations, along with safety and security services associated with the Kazma 3 incident — reportedly struck by an unidentified projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on October 1, 2026. The incident caused a fire on board and prompted a rescue response.
Together, the two contracts amount to approximately 4.296 million dinars. The approvals enable KOTC to proceed with the required emergency repairs and operational support under the two separate contracts.
