The Presidential Campaign Council of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC-PCC) Monday called on the northern stakeholders to allow the southern axis of the country complete its eight year presidency to allow for fairness and justice.
Director General of the APC-PCC, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, made the plea when he led the campaign team on separate visits to the Emir of Gwandu, the Emir of Katsina, the Emir of Daura and the Emir of Zaria.
According to him, the royal visits formed part of a broader consultative visit to traditional and political leaders across the country, as the council builds consensus and galvanises support ahead of key campaign activities leading up to 16th January 2027.
Yari, had, Sunday, led a delegation to a meeting with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Kolapo Sulu-Gambari.
He said the delegation came not to solicit political endorsement, but to seek the prayers, blessings, and wise counsel of the royal fathers, whose moral and spiritual guidance remains indispensable to the nation’s political process.
On the entourage of Senator Yari were former Borno state governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, former Kano state governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Kebbi state governor, Sen. Adamu Aliero, former Zamfara state governor, Sen. Sani Ahmad Yarima and former Sokoto state governor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Also on the team were former Gombe state governor, Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje and former Katsina state governor, Ibrahim Shema, amongst others.
Speaking at the Emir of Gwandu’s palace, Yari said there was need for the South to complete its 8-year tenure.
His position tallied with that of the Kebbi state Governor, Nasir Idris, who also called on the north to allow the southern part of the country to complete its eighth year in the interest of fairness.
“We are the first state to mobilise our people, declared support and endorsed the President for a second tenure, vowing to vote for him in 2027,
“Whatever you see on the contrary on social media are a bunch of lies, that should be ignored.
“APC is firmly rooted in Kebbi, the Distinguished DG has seen the massive turn out of people in a warm welcome to the Campaign Council members and solidarity for President Tinubu, who has delivered the requisite dividends of democracy to uplift the wellbeing of our communities.
“The North has spent 8 years in power, it’s only fair and in the spirit of oneness, togetherness, unity of purpose and our cherished rotational presidency to allow the South completes its 8 years on the saddle,” he said
The governor commended the traditional rulers for their consistent support, loyalty and cooperation with the APC-led administration at the federal and state levels, urging them to sustain the tempo.
Echoing similar sentiment, Yari said, “The North is known for its fairness; the Southerners agreed, persevered, and consented to the North to spend two terms of the Presidency, it was only three years ago that power left the North West, we must be seen to be fair and just.
“It’s only fair to allow the South complete its 8 years by voting President Tinubu to continue in office. This is the basis for peace and lasting unity that will make Nigeria continue to prosper.”
“Our visit to this dignified Palace is to pay homage to their Royal Majesty, seek your blessings and prayers for the task ahead. Traditional Rulers are fathers of the society, we are here as obedient servants to pay respect to the traditional institution.
“We appreciate your role as character moulders and mobilisers of peace and unity among the citizenry. President Tinubu has performed creditably well to take Nigeria to greater heights, he has impacted positively on all sectors of the economy, social wellbeing, agricultural growth and infrastructural development.
“He has also remained consistent in bringing succour to all communities nationwide through empowerment schemes. The security situation in the country is an inherited problem which has received utmost priority in tackling the challenges,” Yari added.
In his response, Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar prayed for the victory of both the president and the governor at the 2027 polls.
