TAIZ – A woman was killed and five other civilians, including a woman and a young girl, were injured in shelling and sniper attacks carried out by the Houthi group against residential areas in Yemen's Taiz governorate, according to local rights monitors.
The Yemeni News Agency Saba, citing the Taiz Human Rights Center, reported that Houthi forces targeted homes and villages in the Al-Shaqab area of Sabr Al-Mawadim district, southeast of Taiz city. The attacks resulted in the death of a woman and injuries to a young girl.
The center also said that another woman was wounded by gunfire from a Houthi sniper in the Kahlan area of the district.
In a separate incident, three siblings were injured by shrapnel after a shell fired by the group struck their home in the Aqaqah neighborhood of Sabr Al-Mawadim, the report added.
The Taiz Human Rights Center condemned the attacks, describing them as violations against civilians and calling for an immediate halt to the shelling, sniper fire, and targeting of populated areas.
The organization also urged greater protection for civilians, demanded an end to the siege imposed on Taiz, and called for those responsible for attacks on civilians to be held accountable.
The latest incident underscores the continued humanitarian toll of the conflict in Yemen, where civilians remain vulnerable to violence in frontline areas despite repeated international calls for the protection of non-combatants.
