Kathmandu, October 12
Traffic police have intensified road safety awareness campaigns across the Kathmandu Valley ahead of Dashain and Tihar, aiming to prevent accidents and ensure safe travel during the festive season.
With passenger movement and traffic volumes expected to increase during the festivals, the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has stepped up awareness programmes, traffic management and vehicle inspections.
SSP Suresh Prasad Kafle, chief of the office, said awareness programmes were being conducted at various locations across the Valley to minimise road accidents and ensure safe and convenient travel for passengers.
According to the office, the campaign has focused on busy passenger areas, major roads and transport hubs, particularly New Bus Park, Nagdhunga and Koteshwor. Police have increased surveillance and strengthened their presence at these locations to manage the festive rush.
New Bus Park, which covers 161 ropani, is a major departure point for long-distance public transport, while Nagdhunga and Koteshwor are key entry and exit points of the Valley.
Traffic police have been educating drivers and passengers travelling on both long- and short-distance routes about traffic rules, road safety and responsible behaviour. Vehicle mechanical inspections and checks for drunk driving have also been prioritised.
Kafle said the main objective was to reduce accidents and help passengers reach their destinations safely during the festive period.
