The caretaker governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, Charles Madut Akol, has convened a meeting with five caretaker commissioners and two municipal council mayors to discuss the general security situation across the state’s five counties.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Dominic Kang Deng, the caretaker information minister, said the meeting focused on ongoing criminal activities in the counties, particularly those linked to drug abuse among young people.
“We met with the caretaker commissioners of the five counties here in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, and the aim of this was to discuss and find a solution to the crimes and abuse of drugs by young people, which is resulting in insecurity in the counties.”
Kang expressed concern over the growing use of Tramadol and other drugs among young people, saying the trend was contributing to an increase in criminal activities across the state.
He stated that Governor Madut had directed the county commissioners to work with security agencies to curb drug abuse and address criminal activities in their respective areas.
“Governor Madut has directed the security organs to prevent criminal activities as people prepare for the elections scheduled for December 22, 2026,” he said.
The meeting comes as state authorities seek to address security concerns and encourage collective efforts toward the development of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
